Why Fly Fishing?

Why fly fishing should be considered for outdoor education in your school:

  • Fly fishing is a rewarding lifetime activity that is in keeping with current trends in outdoor education.

  • There are no negatives to fly fishing.

  • It is beneficial to all whom it touches: the individual, his/her family, friends, business or professional acquaintances.

  • Participants in fly fishing are supporters of our natural resources, wildlife, fisheries and the environment.

  • Fly fishing is "gender neutral"; it is equally suitable to male and female.

  • It is not age specific.  It is beneficial to young and old, and is enjoyed for the life of the practitioner.

  • Fly fishing is non-consumptive, non-combative, teaches patience, humility, good ethics, integrity and strength of character.

  • Fly fishers are proponents of clean water, fresh air and the wise use of land and water.

  • Fly fishing binds families together in a healthy, productive outdoor pursuit.
