The School of FlyFishing
hosts a series of Outdoor Education Workshops ("Outdoor Courses") at a variety of
locales. The sessions provide "hands-on"
instruction to current or potential instructors/teachers. The
overriding purpose of these workshops is to teach course providers how to
teach their students the "Learn How To Fly Fish"
curriculum.
The School also accommodates middle school, high school, college and university faculty and/or students in these fly-fishing-oriented areas. Courses are offered throughout the spring and summer months in several top fly fishing locations. Designed to coordinate with and complement the institution's use of the "Learn How To Fly Fish" curriculum in their classroom courses, these outdoor sessions expand the learning experience. The workshops are directed by Dana & Katie Cole. The course content includes use of course text, CD-ROM, online course, lesson plan, teaching/training aids, exams and forms. In an informal, relaxed setting in premier fly fishing locations, with 2-3 days of "hands on" guidance, attendees gain experience that is not otherwise available. In these Outdoor Education Workshops, participants will learn technical fly fishing skills that otherwise would take years of time to acquire. Workshops are currently available in South Dakota, Nebraska, Montana, and Minnesota. A companion program, "Teaching On The Fly", gives institutions the option of having The School of FlyFishing provide these same educational services at the location of the institution's choosing.
