Lesson Plan

      The “Learn How to Fly Fish” Lesson Plan is a key component of the total curriculum.  It should get you well on your way to effectively teach fly fishing. 

     Compiled after 8 years teaching 1000’s of students, the program serves as a “road map” for instructors.  It is designed to provide an "evolutionary" methodology to presenting the information effectively to middle school, high school, college and/or other classroom settings. 

     The plans are adaptable to a per session role depending on the teacher's timetable and classroom needs/objectives.  The School of FlyFishing’s textbook, “Learn How To Fly Fish, A Guide To The Fundamentals of Fly Fishing”, is the outline for the lesson plan and is structured/organized by the individual chapters in the text. The instructor, at his/her discretion, may alter the order of presentation of these chapters, to adapt to individual class dynamics, timing, weather, etc

The Lesson Plan contains:

1)      Chapter Guides . . . divided by chapters, these 10 individual reference/teaching guides correlate to the individual chapters in the “Learn How To Fly Fish” textbook: Knots, Equipment, Fly Reels, Fly Lines, Leaders, Fly Rods, Insectology, Flies, Fish, and Casting.

2)      Digital Media . . . 3 CDs are included, consisting of:

a)      "Learn How To Fly Fish” CD-ROM for Windows.  600 page reference/teacher tool organized by subject, which correlate to the same topics in the textbook.

b)      “Educational Series CD-ROM /Learn How Fly Fish”/ Lesson Plan (disk 1), contents:

                                                              i.      Lesson Plan pdf file. Contains the digital files for the curriculum

                                                            ii.      Tracy Krause Lesson Plans.  These are specific to knot tying. They originated from a high school teacher in Washington.

                                                          iii.      Knot video vignettes.  These are knots animations with narration that will play on a media player.

                                                          iv.      Fly line composition file.  A graphic for use in tackle assembly, knot tying, etc.

                                                            v.      Flycasting games files.  A series of games to use to improve flycasting skills.

                                                          vi.      “Here Fishy Fishy” . . . a short video, see for yourself

c)      “Educational Series CD-ROM /Learn How Fly Fish” Lesson Plan (disk 2), contents:

                                                              i.      Chapter Assessment Module

                                                            ii.      Chapter Assessment Answers Module

     The Assesment/Testing Module provided with the "Learn How To Fly Fish" curriculum includes comprehensive, proven exams.  These can be administered by the instructor, at their option, in a conventional classroom setting, or over the internet.  Instructors may amend the materials as they see fit, or simply administer the exam material "as is."

     Correcting/grading can be done manually by the instructor, or with a little effort, automatically by an instructor with results posted on the internet.
