Students learning how to fly fish at middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities need a fly rod outfit to use during their instruction. In most cases, the institution will acquire a sufficient amount of fly rods and reels to make them available to its students for their use during the course. Rod Outfit: we suggest a minimum of one rod outfit per 2 students expected in a course; the specifications below are those that will serve the needs of most institutions in teaching entry level students with anticipation of use in freshwater. If primary use will be saltwater, a "larger" outfit may be better suited. Please inquire.
Although, the "Learn How To Fly Fish" curriculum does not provide information on tying flies, we do feel it's a valuable and important part of the rewards of fly fishing. We have found many institutions choose to add this into there fly fishing course(s), hence we have fly tying kits available . These kits are specifically designed for a classroom setting. They can be reused numerous times without having to worry about replenishing the contents. Suggested Fly Tying Kit: we suggest a fly tying kit be available for each student's use. We offer the basic kit from Wapsi Fly.
Equipment Program The School of FlyFishing works with Redington and Sage in order to make available suitable equipment at reduced academic pricing. We seek out rods and reels that we know are appropriate for teaching beginners how to fly fish. With appropriate registration, the institution, course instructor(s) and students are offered this Academic Pricing on purchases of these items from The School of FlyFishing's "Tackle Shop." Funding Our affiliate, FlyFishing Education Foundation, is one source of funding for
middle schools, high schools and colleges. |
